Archives for London Annual Conference

‘Sick of London’

The AfL annual conference will examine Places, Patients, Practitioners and Prophylaxis from London’s medical past.

Bringing together archive practitioners and users the conference will reveal how medical archives can enrich our research experiences as well as introducing sources that can be overlooked in local and family history.

AfL is delighted to bring you a host of specialist speakers to share their knowledge and enthusiasm on a wide range of themes including:

• Dr Alysa Levene - Medical treatment in hospital and workhouse

• Prof Eric Gruber von Arni - Military hospitals for parliamentary troops in Civil War London

• Prof Anne Hardy - Metropolitan Medical Officers of Health

• Beth Astridge - Surgeons and surgery in London

• Melanie Parker - Women dentists in 18th and 19th centuries

• Sue Hawkins & Juliet Warren – Victorian and Edwardian in-patients at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Sick of London will show that medical archives are a healthy source for research from the 17th century to the modern day.
