Winning Endeavours, celebrating sport in London’s archives

Does your archive contain documents or photographs of 20th century Olympic or Paralympic heroes or events in London or South East England?

AfL is working with London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) and the British Library in a new Heritage Lottery Fund project to celebrate sport in archives from London and the South East. Winning Endeavours will digitise and share documents, press cuttings, visual material and ephemera relating to the 1908 and 1948 Olympic Games, as well as the 1948 Paralympics and London’s sporting representatives.

Material will be digitised on site at LMA and published on a new website which will remain live until the end of 2012, aimed at journalists, researchers and everyone interested in London’s place in Olympic history.

Winning Endeavours will attract new audiences to archives, especially children and young people and contributing repositories will also be invited to take part in a new outreach programme led by LMA. The project will help archives raise their profile, locally and regionally, and paves the way for new, exciting partnerships. We particularly hope that smaller archives will use the contacts and resources of AfL, LMA and the British Library.
